Giulio Burgio awarded Juan de la Cierva fellowship
June 25th, 2025
We are excited to announce that Giulio Burgio, who has been a Postdoctoral Associate at the Vermont Complex Systems Institute with us, is moving to a new position at the Alvaro Sanchez Lab at the Institute of Functional Biology and Genomics (IBFG), a joint research center between CSIC and the University of Salamanca in Spain.
During his time at UVM, Giulio made significant contributions to network science, focusing on spreading processes and higher-order interactions, including publications on self-reinforcing cascades, paradoxes in co-evolution of contagions and institutions, and adaptive hypergraphs and higher-order contagions.
Giulio will initially be supported by Dr. Sanchez's ERC funding through December 2025. Starting in January 2026, he will transition to a two-year position funded by the prestigious Juan de la Cierva fellowship, which he was recently awarded—one of Spain's most competitive research scholarships for outstanding young researchers.
Congratulations, Giulio, on this exciting move and the prestigious fellowship award!
